More than people and equipment

For the Simian Sapphire gas field project in the Mediterranean, Egypt, Serimax needed to provide a comprehensive, flexible service in order to meet set objectives and targets. The sheer volume of fabrication and welds was just one of the many challenges we faced.

The work, which involved specially trained Egyptian support staff, was conducted over two daily 12-hour shifts in Damietta Port, a secure site on the edge of the Mediterranean which presented its own administrative and logistical intricacies.

The challenge

Working with a pipe movement specialist, we designed, manufactured, transported and set up a modular quad-joint fabrication complex in Damietta Port.

This was a full-build contract, from pipe delivery all the way through to as-built documentation.

We fabricated over 4,000 welds, developed the weld procedures (which meant simulating barge conditions), and even manufactured a turntable to replicate the offshore scope. We then placed welders offshore to complete the tie-in welds of all the quads we had made.

The results

Our contract was completed on time and on budget. The hard work and determination shown by all members of the Serimax team was fully appreciated by the client.

Serimax offers much more than just people and equipment. We drive projects forward by offering a wide range of capabilities. We are able to manage complex logistics, fabricate components, and supply a flexible workforce to carry out high-quality welding.
