Positive impact

Training in Angola

Serimax first started working in Angola in 2005. Following years of civil war, the infrastructure of the country is being rebuilt and the establishment of a new Education and Training Centre is intended to provide jobs, investment and opportunities for local people to develop practical skills. It is a prime example of a Serimax project that is both commercially practical and has a positive impact on the environments and communities in which we operate.

Courses at the Serimax Training Centre will not only help local people find work in the oil and gas industries, but also arm them with the expertise to re-establish fundamental services such as roads, electricity, sanitation and education.

Training the trainers

The design and operation of the Serimax Training Centre is based on our existing facilities in France and Scotland. As a first step, we will be recruiting four people from local communities to undertake instructor training in Scotland, including everything from plant, welding, and assessment of others, to health and safety, quality and English as a foreign language.

Supervisors will support the instructors as they develop the skills and experience needed to train classes of up to 12 people.

Positive local impact

Serimax’s aim is always to have a positive environmental and social impact on the economy of the countries in which we operate. In building the Training Centre there will be investment in local suppliers for materials, consumables and equipment, food and water.

The Centre itself will introduce National Standards in Vocational Education. Most importantly of all, trainees will leave with a recognised qualification. Serimax is genuinely helping to develop a skilled and empowered workforce in Luanda and Angola. That is good for us, good for local people and good for the country.
