Technical excellence
Serimax has always been focused on innovation.
We have a close partnership with some of the world's largest oil and gas companies and pipe manufacturers.
Every project has its unique challenges and demands. Serimax is ready to meet them. We have our own Research and Development (R&D) team – comprising 30 engineers and technicians, who work to innovate, develop and promote our technology and process services.
Means and technology ensures quality
Equipment engineering is developed using the latest 3D CAD and FE Analysis workstations. Automation software development is undertaken on high end real time platforms. The latest technologies are integrated within Serimax equipment designs.
Automatic welding stations and a full-scale industrial robot are dedicated to welding R&D tests throughout the year. Our R&D team regularly spend time in the field, so that they have first-hand experience which can be incorporated into their daily engineering tasks.
Experience and know-how
The R&D team commonly defines welding procedures for steel grades such as X80 and X100 plus corrosion resistant alloys and pipe for steel catenary risers using welding processes such as GMAW, with pulse and the traditional short arc and now the much used STT. We also investigate the use of Automated TIG welding on specialised projects.
Depending on customers' project needs, associated equipment is also developed. These include 2G and 5G re-rounding clamps, high precision remotely controlled gas purge systems, internal vision and a laser profiling system, to name but a few.
Investment for the future
Serimax spares no effort in process and technology research for new applications. Productivity, weld quality and safety enhancements are the R&D long-term guidelines. For example, an extensive research and test programme will be undertaken in 2008 on hybrid laser welding processes and the necessary equipment for deployment in the field.
Applications
Tandem wire welding, including procedures and equipment development, led to
a successful field application during 2007.
Maxiluc, a high strength clamp has been designed and integrated by Serimax.
The problems of high-low, associated with internal line-up have been successfully eliminated on at least three projects in recent years.
We have designed and built the Scanvision Internal Line-Up Clamp module providing visual inspection and high precision laser profiling capabilities. This system has now proved successful in the field.
Saturnax bug-and-band and Saturne frame-based welding systems are controlled via Serimax fully digital control units. Welding parameters' acquisition and processing are available with all the above systems.
We thrive on the constant changing market demands and are conscious of the challenges being presented by the development of deepwater fields and the use of higher grade steels and more exotic materials. We will continue to make every effort to ensure that these demands are met successfully.
