Serimax: offshore welding and marine welders

Arnaud Jozefacki

Maintenance Supervisor

Arnaud Jozefacki joined Serimax in 1995 as a welding technician. He's now a maintenance supervisor, based in Malaysia.

"Things have changed a great deal in the last few years," says Arnaud. "There was a time when I could do most things with a screwdriver. Now it is more likely to involve a computer. Saturnax version five is completely digitally-controlled, so I've had to learn a lot of new skills, which is both exciting and challenging."

"But the most important thing of all is still being able to develop a good relationship with our clients, to understand exactly what they need, and to communicate exactly how we can help them."

"I love the fact that every job is different. I don't just get to work with people from many other countries, but also to travel to a lot of those countries. I've run projects in Brazil, Taiwan, Norway – all very different and interesting places."

Arnaud always finds the mobilisation phase very challenging – working out precisely how to set up and implement a project. "Most of the projects I deal with are offshore, so this involves going on board the barge to assess how best to install the welding stations and equipment."

"There are around 50 courses different courses available to us. I've learned a lot of different skills, ranging from emergency procedures for bailing out of a helicopter, through to computer skills for the new Serimax welding equipment."
